Self-Righteousness
Many followers of Progressive Christianity, who are sincerely motivated to work for the betterment of the human condition and alleviate human suffering, site Jesus’ words, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness…”. But what is “His righteousness”?
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God is that through Christ’s Incarnation and Atonement on the Cross, “God demonstrated His righteousness” (Romans 3:25-26) – not that people can learn – through Christ’s example to demonstrate their righteousness here on this earth. (Viz. “Moral Influence Theory”) Those who would establish a kingdom on this present earth by their own righteousness seek a city whose builder and maker is Humanity. That is Babylon.
Delving into the historical and theological roots of Progressive Christianity, exposes a denial of the efficacy of Christ’s Atonement – therefore also denying “the righteousness of God”.
By its very nature, character, tenets, and practices, Progressive Christianity embraces Progressive politics in its efforts to establish “social justice”. Thus, it usurps “His righteousness” with their self-righteousness exercised through political power – namely, the policies, programs, and enforced legislation of political Progressivism.
